We recently completed this compact ADU located in the Sherman Heights historic district! It is a 1,122 SF two-story, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathrooms ADU.

Locating it in the backyard of the existing home removed its parking spaces, so we had to be very creative with the first-floor design. The narrow lot allowed for parking on both sides of the first floor living space with bedrooms located on the second floor and that level’s cantilevers overhanging the new parking spaces, as you can see in the rendering.

Taking advantage of the stunning views of the Coronado Bridge and downtown San Diego, the design has a coastal and bright aesthetic. The owner was very open to creative solutions, and the process was like working with a 3D puzzle, designing a comfortable ADU in a very limited space.
