Fire Rebuild

Rebuilding after a wildfire can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to navigate the process alone. Since the devastating 2003 Cedar Fire, our firm has been dedicated to helping homeowners rebuild their lives and their homes. We specialize in designing fire-resilient structures, incorporating wildfire protection best practices and durable, fire-resistant materials. Our experience spans over two decades and includes more than 25 fire rebuild projects, including our own family foundation and artist studios, Ilan Lael, which suffered significant losses in the Cedar Creek Fire. This personal experience fuels our passion for this work, and we’re committed to making the rebuilding process as accessible and smooth as possible for you.

To expedite the design and construction process, we offer a selection of pre-designed floor plans that can be adopted “as-is” or  tailored to your specific needs. These previously permitted plans, which include some of our smaller homes and ADUs, greatly simplify and accelerate the entire process, from initial design through permitting and construction. By taking advantage of these pre-approved plans, you can avoid the time-consuming and often complex process of developing new plans from scratch, allowing you to rebuild your home more efficiently.

These plans represent thoughtful and intentional design, ensuring both lasting safety and peace of mind while significantly accelerating your return home. Our number one goal is to share our knowledge and make information about sustainable, fire-resistive building systems more accessible. We believe that building back stronger is essential for creating a more resilient California.

We recommend several proven building material types for fire-resilient construction, including Insulated Composite Concrete Form (ICCF) block with a natural plaster or lime wash finish, foam core sandwich panels with a shotcrete finish, and strawbale construction with a natural plaster finish. These materials offer superior fire resistance and contribute to a more sustainable built environment. Below, you’ll find examples of our available floor plans, ready to be customized to create the home you envision.

With a strong, fire-resistant design, your new home will provide lasting safety and peace of mind. Our goal is to share our knowledge and make information about sustainable building systems more accessible throughout the region, helping to create a more resilient California. We’re here to support you through this process and make it as smooth and efficient as possible.
