St. James-by-the-Sea and the Ilan-Lael Foundation are co-hosting an event tonight at the church! Conversations on Beauty – Sacred Spaces will examine the timeless relationship between art and the built environment that will examine places of religious/spiritual importance, inspired by the work of artist James Hubbell in his numerous “sacred spaces” around the world.

Panelists:

Rev. Dr. Mark Hargreaes, Rector, St. James-by-the-Sea

Susanne Sklar, William Blake Scholar, Oxford University Lecturer

Timothy Hinchliff, Huichol Artist/Shaman

Nic Revels, DMA, Director of Community Engagement (Retired) and Principal Speaker, San Diego Opera

and late addition James Hubbell!

When? Tonight 6 – 7:30pm. Come a bit early to see a photo exhibition curated by Marianne and Michael Gerdes of some of Jim’s finest examples of sacred spaces.

This event is a fundraiser for the film by the same name which the Gerdes’s are working on about Jim’s art and how it connects with people across denominations. We are excited to share the news that KPBS has agreed to be the presenting station for the broadcast of this film upon its completion.

Please share this with friends who might be interested! The cost to attend is FREE!

Where?

St James by-the-Sea Church

743 Prospect Street, La Jolla, CA 92037

P.S. We’re also having a Sacred Spaces bus tour on Saturday to visit five sites where Jim’s work is on display. There are still spaces left if anyone wants to join in. Tickets will be available tonight at the event.
