This home, located in Del Mar, California, is nestled into the sandstone cliffs adjacent to Torrey Pines State Park. Currently under construction, the modern-styled residence utilizes colors from the surrounding natural landscape.

Not only does it have views of Torrey Pines Park’s sandstone cliffs to the east, it is situated to have views of the beach and Pacific Ocean. One of the goals included preserving as many as the surrounding trees as possible when building on the property.

The design integrates natural building materials such as lime plaster and is oriented on the site to maximize passive solar design and passive ventilation.

Since the garage is made of concrete and below grade, it utilizes thermal mass by maintaining a constant 65-degree temperature that can be used throughout the home. Solar panels will also be installed for the home’s energy consumption.

Some of James Hubbell’s last art commissions depicts a stunning stained glass window of Torrey Pines in the home as well as sculptural elements.

Thanks to the owner for the images. We are looking forward to seeing photos of the home when it’s completed!
