This residence and a detached garage are located in Southern California on a site that was previously home to a residence that was destroyed in the 2003 Cedar Fire. Our goal was to respect the natural environment on the site while creating a resilient and sustainable home.
The design preserves and celebrates the large granite boulders that are present on the property. The house features a modern design with a stucco exterior and a metal roof. The large windows offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The outdoor living space includes a patio with a fire pit, a dining area, and a lounge area. The landscape is designed to complement the surrounding landscape with native and drought-tolerant plants and trees.
The homeowners, a local energy policy expert and their family, prioritized energy efficiency and on-site power generation. To achieve this, the design incorporated photovoltaic panels and solar hot water panels mounted on the garage roof. The home is a testament to energy efficiency and renewable power.
