The hill was a buzz with activity today. We sprayed the first coat of concrete onto the frame of the newest Ilan-Lael Foundation building. This is an exciting step forward and marks another milestone towards completion. We can't wait to show off the progress in just a few weeks at the open house!
We are making great progress in completing the Art Center courtyard complex — a triad of buildings that will support the public activities on the site of Ilan-Lael. Ilan-Lael is the hand-built home of San Diego artist James Hubbell and his wife Anne located in Julian, CA. Hubbell and Hubbell reached out to the New School of Architecture to present information on fire resistive material. Though James Hubbell's life work was affected by the wild fire of 2003, the destruction of the fire has presented opportunities to enlighten future architects on how to help their work resist natural disaster.
Hubbell and Hubbell presented their work on the Pacific Rim Parks and current projects to Friends of Architecture, San Diego in November of 2013.
