Check out a recently completed 1,200 SF ADU, designed by H&H and built by SLR Construction in San Diego. The owners envisioned expanding their property with an addition that they could move into while renting out the main home.
In a space where the owner, a ghost writer for novels, will be spending a lot of time writing, design goals included maximizing natural daylighting and ventilation. He also was looking for Asian influences in the aesthetic, so we created a spacious layout with simple clean lines and an emphasis on the beauty of modernity. One of our favorite features of the unit is the sleek butterfly roof. The rear patio also also lends to indoor and outdoor living.
We utilized insulated composite concrete form block (Perfect Block) for the exterior walls, which have a 4-hour fire rating, super insulation, sound-proofing, and strength compared to conventional building methods.
ADUs can be designed with ingenious organization methods, maximizing a feeling of openness.
