The Jamul ADU, designed by Hubbell & Hubbell and built by Scott Lee Rudge Construction, was recently completed! This 510 sq ft ADU plus a covered trellis patio is inspired by the Ilan-Lael Caretaker Cottage in Santa Ysabel, CA.
Insulated composite concrete form block, called “The Perfect Block,” was used to build this ADU located in Jamul, CA. Foam core sandwich panels were used to create the curvilinear roof.
What are the benefits of building with Perfect Block?
Fire Resistance: it does not burn at an open flame and has a 4-hour fire-rating!
Excellent Insulation: a low infiltration rate with insulation values up to R32, keeping your utility bill much lower.
Sustainable: 100% of EPS in the block is recycled & 87% of each block volume is recycled EPS.
Strength: 700% stronger than wood stud framing & of course…
…Design Versatility
What does the building process look like?
The blocks are created by mixing cement with Styrofoam and grounding it into an aggregate.
When stacked, the blocks are filled with steel rebar and concrete creating an extremely strong structural grid wall system.
What about foam core sandwich panels?
These panels boast many of the same benefits as the Perfect Block.
They also can resist 200 mph winds and are common in hurricane prone locations.
Both materials are damage-resistant to termites and insects because much less wood is used.
