Drew Hubbell’s recent visit to Africa to help people who help gorillas is featured in the January issue of ZOONOOZ magazine published by the San Diego Zoo. In the article “Apes, Architecture, and Adventure in Africa,” Drew tells of his experience designing the new Gorilla Research Center in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the importance of CTPH’s gorilla research, and his encounters with mountain gorillas during a small gorilla tracking tour.
Did you know there are only 700 mountain gorillas left on the planet? Drew was lucky enough to see a handful of them close up in the wild! Since the mountain gorilla population hangs in such a delicate balance for survival, this was a truly unique experience, made possible by efforts of groups such as Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH) and the ECOLIFE Foundation.
CTPH is currently raising funds for the Gorilla Health Center, and they describe the process in a recent newsletter that you can view here.
